Russia Direct is looking for new emerging voices with a fresh take on the U.S.-Russian relationship. If you’re an undergraduate or graduate student anywhere in the world, we invite you to take part in the inaugural RD Student Essay Competition.

The winner of the contest will become a guest contributor on Russia Direct for a period of three months. This is your opportunity to change the future of the U.S.-Russian relationship and establish yourself as a young thought leader in foreign policy!

How to enter: In an essay of 1000 words or less, describe one aspect of the U.S.-Russian relationship that you don’t think has been covered well (or accurately) by the mainstream media.

You might want to address an overlooked field of potential cooperation between Moscow and Washington, some deeply held stereotype that is preventing a breakthrough in the U.S.-Russian relationship, or a topic that may have been mentioned on blogs or social media, but has never been covered by a major media outlet.

All essays must be submitted via email by November 10 (email: editor@russia-direct.org). By November 17, the Russia Direct editorial team will select one winner, based on originality, creativity and style.

On November 24, the winning essay entry will be published on the Russia Direct site and promoted on our social networks. In addition, we will publish a Debate with RD experts, who will discuss the topic of the winning entry on the Russia Direct site.

Starting December 1, that winner will become a guest contributor to Russia Direct for the three-month period from December 1 to March 1, with the opportunity to contribute four op-ed pieces or articles on any topic during that time period.

Entry details: In order to enter, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student at a fully accredited university. All entries must be received by midnight on November 10. All entries must be 1000 words or less and must be written in English. Email entries should be sent to: editor@russia-direct.org
