Andrei Zolotov

Biography

Andrei Zolotov, Jr. is the Executive Editor (Europe) of Russia Direct. He graduated from the Moscow State University (MGU) in 1992 and began his journalistic career as Moscow correspondent for the Ecumenical News International (ENI). From 1997 to 2003, he was senior political correspondent at The Moscow Times. In 1998, he was awarded John Templeton European Religion Writer of the Year prize. In 2004, Mr. Zolotov launched Russia Proifle – an English-language expert magazine and website published by RIA Novosti, and ran it as chief editor for eight years. From 2009 to 2012 he also served as deputy head of RIA Novosti’s foreign language service. In 2013 Mr. Zolotov was posted to Vienna where he worked until the end of 2015 as RIA Novosti’s bureau chief. Apart from his studies at MGU, Mr. Zolotov also spent academic years at Sarah Lawrence College (Bronxville, NY) and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. In 2008/09 he was Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. Mr. Zolotov has a long-standing interest in the issues of media policy, arts, relations between church, state and society in Russia and Orthodox Christianity worldwide. Mr. Zolotov was one of the founding members of the Valdai International Discussion Club.
